Whether you are replacing your old deck or getting one for the first time, the right kind of deck can make your backyard a great place to be. There are several different types of deck materials, though—it’s good to understand the benefits of each in order to make the best decision for you and your house.

As you decide on your deck, the best thing you can do is to be honest about what you need and want, what you expect, and what’s going to fit best with your lifestyle—this way, you’ll definitely get what you want!

Composite Decks

Composite decks are a popular type of deck because they combine two materials—wood and plastic—to create a new type of plank that comes with a host of benefits, like:

  • Extremely low maintenance—just wash off with a hose when it’s dirty!
  • Doesn't crack, warp, or separate.
  • Lasts for years.
  • Sturdy.
  • Looks like wood.

It’s kind of a combination of the best of both worlds type of material, and therefore growing in popularity as a deck material.

Wood Decks

Decks are most traditionally made out of natural wood, and it comes with its own benefits:

  • Classic, traditional beauty.
  • Available in different types of woods.
  • Available in different stains so you can customize the look.
  • Still the most popular deck material.

Most homeowners still look for wood when they’re ready to make a new deck; it’s classic, and it’s hard to go wrong with a classic.

Vinyl Decks

Because decks are most traditionally wood, this might seem a little different, but vinyl comes with its own benefits as well, including:

  • A huge variety of colors and styles.
  • Lasts a long time in good condition.
  • Extremely low maintenance.

When you choose your deck, choose the right fit for you and have it built correctly, and you’ll be enjoying it for a long time!
