National Outdoor Lighting Month

Klassic Custom Decks • October 11, 2013

There are themes for every month—several in October alone, in fact! Sometimes it’s for fun; sometimes it’s to raise awareness. This year, a new awareness is being added: Outdoor Lighting Month.

This might not seem important at first, but the reasons for the addition are actually worthwhile. Daylight Savings Time is coming to an end, and as the darkness starts coming a little earlier as the seasons change, outdoor lighting for safety’s sake is a concern.

Safety for You, Your Family, & Your Home

As you walk up to your front door in the dark or step out back at night, how hard is it to see? If you have areas in your walkways or yard with uneven ground, obstacles like bushes or toys, or stairs, it can be extremely easy to fall and get hurt in the dark.

Also, your home is safer from intruders when it’s well lit—burglars look for the lowest-risk property, and if your house is lit, there’s a much higher risk they will get caught.

Stylish & Functional

There’s never been a better time for outdoor lighting, though—function can come with elegance or fun or an unexpected edge thanks to the variety of choices available.

Light your walkway in an unexpected and beautiful way, or add lights built right into your deck, illuminating every step.

From lights that remind you of old world lanterns to modern lights that turn your outdoor living space into a room of its own, you can have a look that will satisfy your style while keeping you safe.
