Decorating Your Gazebo

Gazebos naturally draw people’s attention in a yard, and you can use this to make a statement in your yard when you’re entertaining by decorating it. One of the most popular times for decorating gazebos is during a wedding, but you can take those staples and relate them to any event!

Start with the basics, then customize it for your party or celebration. For instance:

Birthday

The one thing almost all gazebo decorations have in common is fabric. Whether it’s soft and translucent or thick and sturdy, most people add fabric to their gazebo at some point.

It might seem strange to use fabric for a birthday party, but if you’re trying to make a statement, this is definitely one way to do it!

  • For a child’s birthday: Drape fabric in bright colors around the gazebo to create a rainbow, festival effect.
  • For an adult’s birthday: Find a rich fabric in a bold color to add, then make sure you have lighting that will illuminate the entire gazebo and turn the fabric into a frame.
  • For an “over the hill” birthday: Look for black veil fabric, it’s going to make the biggest impact for the smallest effort!

Think about the purpose of the event when you’re picking out a fabric to find just the right one.

Holiday

The holidays almost always involve entertaining, and decorating your backyard can be a great option when the weather is right!

Another staple is flowers—tying floral arrangements around the columns of a gazebo is a quick way to make it into something new. You can do the same thing for holidays!

  •  White flowers are appropriate for nearly any holiday and provide a formal but fresh feeling.
  •  Colorful flowers really depend on the event, the holiday, and your yard—pick the ones that look great in your space.
  • Ribbons make a great flower substitute if you can’t find the right flowers. Ribbon bouquets with flags are a great choice for the 4th of July, for instance.

Have you ever decorated your gazebo for an event? What worked for you?
